How to find a good Bengali translator

Most of the translators claim that they are the best! But how can you know whether a translator is qualified or not?
In a Gmail chat, one of my clients wrote, "...and you are the only reason to still believe that there are professional Bengali translators. I have had 3 bad experiences with Bengali and I was about to give up on Bengali." --Mr. A.K. from Gainesville, VA, USA. May 21, 2009.
Why it is important to find a qualified Bengali translator at the beginning?
Only a few qualified translators are working in the
English>Bengali pair and the agency has no way to know the quality of
the translation before delivering it to the client because they do not speak Bengali.
Karin knew that the quality of the translation was bad, because it was
a Bengali into English translation. She sent me the translation for
proofreading and I have to retranslate the document. At the end, she sent me
the following mail:
On 6/8/06, Karin wrote:
Dear Saleh,
The other translator initially replied saying that "all translations have to
be proofread anyway" and "the comments by the proofreader were very vague".
Then I sent her the proofread [or re-translated!] text and the translator
said that they agreed with all the changes and that they did not use the
correct legal wording etc etc. So I am still paying them for their time, but
will not use their services again, of course... At least now I know where to
find a good Bengali translator in the future.
I wasn't aware that the translation was so wrong when I assigned the
proofreading job to you. I knew the English wasn't very fluent, but I didn't
think that there were so many mistakes. The text is really different and
your translation makes much more sense in English...

This type of translation is not only waste of money, but also kills a lot of
time. Picking a qualified translator at the beginning of a project is very
important, but how can you find a qualified Bengali
translator?
