Choosing Bengali fonts

For new digital content, Unicode Bengali supports text that can be searched, copied, and reused across compatible systems. Choose a font that supports Bengali shaping, then test the text in the application and output format you intend to use.

A font and layout check should include conjuncts, vowel signs, punctuation, and line endings.

Older Bengali files

Some legacy documents rely on font-specific encodings. Text can appear correct on one computer and unreadable on another. Keep a reference PDF or screenshot of the original, and have a sample assessed before changing fonts or converting the full file.

Dictionaries and terminology

A dictionary is a useful starting point, but a word may have different meanings in medicine, law, education, or everyday conversation. Provide your glossary, reference material, and audience guidance when a preferred term matters. Ambiguous terms should be resolved in context.

Certified translation requirements

For official documents, identify the receiving authority and required language direction. Read the certified English to Bengali and Bengali to English translation enquiry guide before sending your initial brief.

Prepare a useful translation brief

  • What will the content be used for, and who will read it?
  • What is the source language and requested output?
  • What is the approximate word count, page count, or recording length?
  • Which file formats are available, and what final files do you need?
  • Do you have approved terminology, examples, or style guidance?
  • Is there an official-use requirement, review process, or fixed deadline?

Finding the right translator

Look for relevant language and subject experience, clear communication about the brief, and an agreed review process. A discussion about a representative sample can help establish suitability before committing to a large project.
